FROM RICK MERCER:
What can you say about a guy who, just for a laugh, gets you to drop a 20 pound Gemini Award on Peter Mansbridge's head? Roy Belding is an original. He's wildly creative and working with him is a unique pleasure. His talent for television promotion, his visual style, and his eye for directing, shooting and editing are among the best in the country. Roy has been an important part of the success of my shows on CBC TV from This Hour Has 22 Minutes to The Rick Mercer Report and everything in between.
A lot of super talented people worked on this. CBC and outside peeps. The Juggernaught on special effects... and the Baronessez' are just so fun and talented and hilarious and super great to work with... this project was fun from start to finish. I came up with the concept, Directed and Co-Produced. This is the 45 second version.
In over 20 years as a promo producer, I've made hundreds of promos and videos for CBC Television. Including many high profile show and CBC brand campaigns. My first love is comedy, but I've also worked on the whole range of what CBC has to offer - sports, drama, news, documentary and kids programming.
I worked as a segment producer for The Rick Mercer Report, and shot, edited and produced documentaries for CBC News The National as well as the seminal current affairs program Undercurrents.
More recently, my content creation interests have been focused on mobile/online.
I've been behind the camera for artists, fashion designers, event planners, architects and jewellery designers. My work has been used in catalogues and portfolios, on websites, posters and billboards. I'm a one man band... I own pro level gear and have extensive experience shooting photos and video in many different environments. I also have a home editing studio for post work.. I can take a project from initial concept to final mix.
I do a lot of promos for this guy's show so he's being nice to me.
My most recent promo work at CBC. This is my dog, Dean. He's not in any of the promos but he's pretty cool.
Check out this story I produced for The National on Toronto Raptor Charlie Villanueva and his battle with Alopecia Areata. I've recently produced a lot of promos for The National as well as a CBC News Network brand campaign.
I'm fortunate to be producing promos for this super funny show.
I've been slowly developing an Instagram/Youtube presence for a pet project called Fire in the 6ix. As I develop ideas to shoot in the spring and summer, I've been cutting a few promos. You know, for kicks.
Another spot for Fire in the 6ix. This one is in honour of the Nike Air Max 1 and it's designer, Tinker Hatfield. In my opinion, the greatest sneaker ever made... by the greatest sneaker designer ever made.
Roy Belding is simply a magician - he captures light and conveys space in a way that is breathtakingly beautiful. I rely on Roy to photograph all my architectural and interior work - my portfolio is complete with his touch.

Roy has been instrumental in the launch of my company. His ability to interpret my needs, and his creativity within the world he created for my products was impressive. I'm looking forward to our next project as I trust that his creativity and knowledge will make it exactly what it needs to be.

In April, 2018 I spent 11 days in Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid. Our flight attendant was originally from Madrid and recommended a place for authentic Flamenco dancing. ESSENTIAL FLAMENCO - Google it! They perform in a brick cellar that seats about 50. It was a cold, rainy weekday night and there were 10 of us in the audience. They played to us like we were 10,000. All acoustic.. they absolutely blew us away. It was SO fun! MUST GO if you're ever lucky enough to be in Madrid.
This is the final home run of Derek Jeter's career. I took this September 18, 2014 at Yankee Stadium. The pitcher is Toronto Blue Jay R.A. Dickey. Check out the little white line just left of the AVIS sign.. that's the ball on it's way to the left field bleachers.
